About
A PhD Position in Neuroimmunology of Parkinson’s Disease is available in the Laboratory for Neurodegenerative Diseases, directed by Prof. Giorgia Melli at the Institute for Translational Research EOC-USI, Bellinzona, Switzerland. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the Neuroimmunology Laboratory led by Dr. Daniela Latorre, Institute of Experimental Neurology (INSPE), Division of Neuroscience, San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy.
Project description:
The research topic focuses on the study of autoreactive T cell immunity in patients with Parkinson’s disease, with the goal of understanding its role in the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration. This project offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge methodologies, including in vitro stimulation assays, T cell receptor sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics.

Candidate profile:
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive PhD applicant, who is well-organized, reliable, and adaptable, with strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.
Requirements:
- A Master’s degree in Experimental Biology, Biomedicine, Immunology or a related field
- Prior experience with standard laboratory techniques, including cell culture, multicolor flow cytometry, and molecular biology methods
- Prior experience in immunological techniques and T cell immunology and functional T cell assays is highly desirable
- Fluency in spoken and written English
The selected candidate will be enrolled in the PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences at Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI). The position is fully funded for a period of three years.
